San Giuliano Terme, on the slopes of the Pisan hills, mentioned by Dante in the Divine Comedy, is a perfect destination to stay in a complete harmony with nature and the artistic treasures of the area.
In Pisa the impressing buildings show the grandeur of the Pisan Republic in the two first centuries of the millennium.
One of the seven world wonders, the Leaning Tower, can be visited again, after years of restoration and it's an integral part of the architectonic complex of Piazza dei Miracoli, which attracts tourists from all over the world.
Don't forget to visit Piazza dei Cavalieri, restored by Vasari and once residence of the Knights of S. Stefano, the pretty Gothic Roman little church of S. Maria della Spina, the city museums.
Few kilometres away you can visit the Carthusian Monastery of Calci (XIV century) composed of the Monastery, the Church with frescos by Bergamini and the cloisters. In San Piero a Grado you find the basilica in a romanesque-Pisan style where S. Pietro would have been given hospitality during his travel towards Rome.
Going further on the Brennero Road, you reach Lucca, marvellous arts city of Etruscan origin, surrounded with walls over 4 Km. long erected in the XVIth century. In the Duomo you can admire the temple of the "Holy Face" by Civitali, and visit the famous tomb of Ilaria del Carretto, wonderfully made by Jacopo della Quercia. Near are the Villas Lucchesi among which Mansi, Torrigiani and Reale of Marlia.
Naturalistic visits are recommended in the Park of San Rossore with broad leaved woods, beaches and marsh areas. Equestrian sports in the Horse Centre Pineta Salviati inside the Park.
