The Hotel Accademia is right in the center of the city in Via Faenza, just a short walk from the San Lorenzo Basilica and only 5 minutes from the Santa Maria Novella Train Station.

The hotel is housed in a 14th Century building that has preserved all the atmosphere and attraction of ancient Florence, with its floors in Carrara marble, wonderful artistic windows and plain furniture.
Here, in this charming, exciting setting, you will feel the authentic spirit of the city, thanks also to an exclusive environment and the careful attention we always pay to our guests.

Historical notes:

The Hotel Accademia is located in an old building dating back to the 14th Century, once the home of Bernardo Cennini, a famous goldsmith and sculptor who was born in Florence in 1415 and who worked on the creation of the wonderful Saint John's Baptistry.
Cennini was one of the artists who worked on the huge Baptistry's door and on the Altar, a splendid work of art made entirely from silver (400 kilos) in Gothic-Renaissance style.
Some of the items that Cennini created are now on shown in the Duomo's Museo dell'Opera.

Basilica di San Lorenzo:
The Basilica di San Lorenzo was designed by Brunelleschi and was then decorated with frescoes by Michelangelo. It is one of Florence's finest masterpieces of art and architecture. The are many works of art to be seen inside: The two pulpits built by Donatello, the Medicea Laurenziana Library and the Medici Family Tombs by Michelangelo. There is also the chapel, the "Cappella dei Principi" with its magnificent marble and semi-precious stone decorations. Distance: 2 minutes on foot

San Lorenzo Market:
Housed in a huge iron and glass building that dates back to 1874, the San Lorenzo Market is still as attractive as always. At the market you can find several stalls that sell typical Tuscan and Florentine food produce and others selling flowers, fruit and vegetables.
Distance: 2 minutes on foot

Church of Santa Maria Novella:
The church was built in the 13th century. It has a Gothic-Romanesque style façade made from white and green marble. The church houses some interesting works of art such as the Trinity fresco by Masaccio and the Cross made by Brunelleschi.
Distance: 5 minutes on foot

Piazza Duomo:
This is the square in front of the Duomo, the huge Gothic cathedral that was completed in 1436 by Brunelleschi who also built the famous dome painted with frescoes by Vasari and Zuccari. The Baptistry, dedicated to Saint John, dates back to 1128. Inside it has a wonderful solid silver altar and a unique square bell tower designed by Giotto in 1334, which is completely covered in white, red and green marble.

By car:
Take the first exit for Florence off the motorway.
Follow directions for the Center ("Centro - Stazione").
Go round the roundabout at Piazza Stazione fand turn into Piazza dell'Unità. Turn into Via del Melarancio and go right to the end.
Turn left into Via Faenza. You will find the hotel at number 7.
You can park your car in Via Faenza, in a garage that has an agreement with the hotel. It is just 20 meters from the hotel.

By train:
Take the left exit from Santa Maria Novella Station (near to the pharmacy) and then turn right. Carry straight on for about 50 meters until you reach Largo Alinari. Turn left and carry on for a few meters. The dirst road on the right is Via Faenza.

By plane:
You can get to the Hotel Accademia from Florence's "Amerigo Vespucci" Airport by taking a taxi.
Alternatively, you can use the "Airport Shuttle" bus that links the airport to Santa Maria Novella Station.
Take the left exit out of the station (near the pharmacy) and then turn right. Carry straight on for about 50 meters until you reach Largo Alinari. Turn left and carry on for a few meters. The first road on the right is Via Faenza.
